Chapter 6: Jeffrey MacDonald

* * *

Background

Jeffrey Robert MacDonald was born in Jamaica, Queens, in New York City in the year 1943. He was the second of three siblings, born to parents Robert and Dorothy MacDonald. He studied at the Patchogue High School, where he was deemed to have a very bright future. Jeffrey received the highest voting for the titles “most likely to succeed,” as well as “most popular boy.” During his high school years, Jeffrey won a scholarship to Princeton University. While he was at Princeton, Jeffrey became romantically involved with Colette Stevenson. He had previously been with Colette during high school, although they had not been involved romantically. While he was studying at Princeton, Colette was studying at Skidmore College. It was during those college years, on September 14, 1963, when Jeffrey learned that Colette was pregnant with his first child. As a result of this, Jeff decided to marry Colette. On April 18, 1964, Colette MacDonald gave birth to Kimberly, their first daughter.
